I understand that mental health is often stigmatized in many communities and I want to provide a space that allows children and adolescents to feel safe and supported.

Hi there! My name is Karina and I am school psychology doctoral candidate. Much of my experience comes from working with children and adolescents in schools. I want to provide support to children, adolescents, and their families to improve their emotional and behavioral wellbeing.

I am specifically interested in mental health interventions, specifically pertaining to minoritized youth. I enjoy learning of new ways to uplift the voices of youth to get a better sense of what they believe is needed and working closely with them to determine how to best meet their goals. Additionally, I also provide support in the form of psychoeducational assessments to help children and adolescents better understand their strengths and the areas that challenge them.

Originally from Chicago, Illinois, I am excited to work with Black and Brown Latinx communities to better support the implementation of mental health interventions and other resources. Identifying as Mexican American, I am also interested in providing resources in the Spanish language to provide more awareness to Spanish-speaking individuals and their families. I understand that mental health is often stigmatized in many communities and I want to provide a space that allows children and adolescents to feel safe and supported.
