Hello, my name is Dr. Katie Gorham, and I thank you for allowing me the opportunity to assist you and your family during a difficult time.  I am a Clinical Psychologist, but you might also call me a therapist, neuropsychological evaluator, and support person. I specialize in helping children and teens who want to feel successful and good about themselves but who struggle to concentrate or focus, understand and manage strong emotions, fears and anxieties, and/or communicate their feelings fully with loved ones and friends.

I can help your child feel better about themselves, learn to express deep feelings, and feel more in control of their body.

I connect with children by using a variety of art, play, storytelling and movement in my therapeutic approach while drawing on the tenants of mindfulness, relaxation techniques, and psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral therapy models. My goal is to provide a space that allows children and teens to feel safe exploring their discomforts and find strength with self-expression, all while building on their capacity to acknowledge and manage frustrations and stressors. I feel a sense of pride when the children I work with tell me they don’t feel as if they are in therapy, yet they feel more confident, empowered and in control of their bodies and emotions after our time together.

I know from my time working with children and families that children do not grow in isolation and that healing happens through relationships. You are the heartbeat of your child’s development and your child learns and grows from you every day. I can help you nurture that relationship by working to repair broken lines of communication, discovering ways to set clear limits, learning to view your child’s emotions and behavior in a new light, and finding time to connect or reconnect in a meaningful way (yes, even during the oftentimes tumultuous period of adolescence). You can trust that our work together will strengthen your family bonds and foster confidence in you and your child’s ability to weather the storm together.

I believe that children and teenagers are strong and resilient, and when provided the opportunity, they teach us powerful lessons about growth and self-compassion. Your child has the power to change the world, and together we can help bring light to his or her inner strengths and open a pathway for a bright and fulfilling future.
