RAVENSWOOD OFFICE

Martha Tyler, AMFT, LPC

Pre-Licensed

Hello! I am an associate licensed marriage and family therapist and licensed professional counselor with a range of experiences working with children (3+), adolescents, young adults, couples, and families with depression, anxiety, ADHD, grief/loss, family transitions, self-harm, childhood/adult trauma, and mood disorders. I believe that you (yes you!) have within yourself the ability to navigate the challenges and changes life brings and therapy is a space to regain trust in yourself. We can work together to help build resilient youth and families through compassionate healing, improving communication, and reengaging with a sense of play.

Change and growth happen within a safe and secure relationship. I am here to walk alongside you, offering compassionate curiosity, a safe space to explore your inner life, and deep insight. Wherever you are in your mental health journey, I’ll meet you there and together we can embrace the ambiguity of the human experience with humor, a sense of play, and compassion.

A passion of mine is working with families to heal intergenerational trauma and break cycles. Families are complicated! Being a parent is one of the most difficult jobs and there’s no manual for how to do it. And being a child or sibling can feel overwhelming when you’re just starting to learn how to communicate needs and wants. Together we can work collaboratively to promote healthy attachment, strengthen bonds, and foster an understanding of unwanted behaviors.

I will draw from Bowenian Theory, Play Therapy, Attachment Theory, Psychodynamic, Trauma Focused CBT, and Strength-Based approaches with children and families. When appropriate, we will explore intergenerational trauma and work to end cycles that are no longer serving you or your family. I use non-directive and directive interventions that focus on integrating play and creativity into meeting desired goals.

I am LGBTQIA+ Affirming and dedicate time to learning about culturally sensitive approaches to treatment, unlearning personal racial/ethnic biases, and advocating for social change.

Martha received her Master of Arts in Couple and Family Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University. She is certified in both Positive Discipline and Trauma Focused CBT. Before becoming a family therapist, she was a high school English teacher and professional nanny. She uses those experiences, as well as a background in theater, to create a playful and creative space for clients of all ages.
